MTV Video Music Awards 2017 reflectă popularitatea artiștilor din ultimele luni. Dacă la precedenta ediție, publicul asculta Beyonce și Adele, cele două fiind nominalizate în cele mai importante categorii, anul acesta Kendrick Lamar, Katy Perry și The Weekend conduc topul nominalizărilor.
Kendrick Lamar a apărut anul trecut în lista revistei Time a celor mai influenți 100 de oameni ai planetei. Rapper-ul american a primit în 2016 nu mai puțin de 11 nominalizări la Premiile Grammy, inclusiv în râvnita categorie Albumul Anului.
În prezent, Lamar promovează albumul ”Damn”, cel de-al 5-lea material de studio, lansat pe 14 aprilie 2017. Ca și discul precedent - ”To Pimp a Butterfly” - noul LP a debutat pe prima poziție în topul american Billboard 200. Albumul a primit, de asemenea, cronici excelente din partea The Daily Telegraph, The Irish Times, Spin și USA Today (5 stele din 5).
După Kendrick Lamar, cu 8 nominalizări, urmează Katy Perry și The Weekend, cu câte 5. În lista nominalizărilor MTV VMA 2017 se regăsesc și Bruno Mars, Lorde, Calvin Harris, Taylor Swift, Zayn, Coldplay, Green Day, Foo Fighters, Ed Sheeran și Imagine Dragons.
Anul acesta, organizatorii MTV VMA au introdus două noi categorii: ”Artist of the Year” (Artistul Anului) și ”Best Fight Against the System” (Cea mai bună luptă împotriva sistemului). Cea de-a doua categorie evidențiază acele clipuri care inspiră publicul să se opună și să lupte împotriva nedreptăților.
Ceremonia de decernare a premiilor MTV Video Music Awards 2017 va avea loc pe 27 august, în Inglewood, California.
