Johnny Depp a fost cooptat de producătorul Hal Willner pentru a participa la înregistrarea albumului "Son of Rogue’s Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs & Chanteys". Albumul va apărea pe piață pe 19 februarie și include și piesa "Shenandoah", interpretată de Tom Waits și chitaristul trupei The Rolling Stones, Keith Richards, care poate fi ascultată mai jos.

Materialul, o continuarea a compilației lansate în 2006, include colaborări cu Iggy Pop, Nick Cave, Patti Smith, Sean Lennon, Macy Gray sau Michael Stipe & Courtney Love, precum și cu directorul de film Gore Verbinski, cunoscut pentru contribuția sa în seria Pirații din Caraibe.
Ideea unei colaborări cu Johnny Depp i-a venit producătorului american Hal Willner încă din 2006, în timp ce se afla pe platoul de filmări pentru Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. Tot atunci l-a cooptat și pe Gore Verbinski iar despre noua compilație acesta spune că este diferită de cealaltă, așa cum ar fi și normal să se întâmple. Piesele înregistrate de Johnny Depp sunt Leaving of Liverpool și The Mermaid, pentru ele acesta colaborând cu Shane MacGowan, Gore Verbinski și Patti Smith.
”Cam în urmă cu un an am crezut că nu voi termina niciodată acest proiect. Pe cât de ușor de coordonat a fost volumul 1, pe atât de anevoios mi se părea volumul 2. Acesta este diferit de primul, aș putea spune chiar că e mai pozitiv, mai vesel. Nu vorbește atât de mult despre tortură și moarte, lucru care ar putea dezamăgi pe unii, dar nici nu putem sa repetăm aceleași teme”.
